Getting Started

Congratulations! you've made a choice to cloth diapering your little ones. We would try to help you as much as possible.

These are some of the FAQ that might help. If the answer that you are looking for is not here, please email at ask@lampinkain.com with your question(s) and we will happily help you out.

Q1: How many diapers do I need?

It depends on your washing routine and your child wetting habits. As general guidelines, if you are full cloth diapering and you wash your diaper everyday; we recommend a minimum of 12 diapers. If your washing routine is in alternate days, we recommend a minimum of 24 diapers.

Q2: How do I use my LampinKain Cloth Diapers?

Pre-wash your LampinKain cloth diapers and insert before use. If you’re using Hemp Combo Insert, you have to wash it 6 more times since hemp takes up to 8 washes to reach its peak of absorbency (our inserts have already been pre-washed two times before they are made into this wonderful insert. Alternatively, you just can boil the inserts for 10 minutes.

Q3: How can I tell if the diaper fit my baby properly?

To observe fit, pick up your baby’s legs after putting the diaper on and observe how it fits around the legs and bottom. Is it snug? If so, then the diaper fit your baby properly. If not, then you need to change to smaller/ bigger setting or size

Q4: I'd like to buy LampinKain! Where can I get this brand?

Currently, LampinKain products are only available in this website. From time to time we will update our retailers, so do check often

Q5: How do I wash my new diapers?

We recommend pre-washing your pocket diaper in cold, warm or hot wash. As for the insert which is made from hemp, wash it 6 more times (Our inserts have already been pre-wash two times before they are made into this wonderful inserts!) or boil it for 10 minutes to make it reach its maximum absorbency.

Any mild detergent works well and it is recommended to use reduced amount of detergent (recommended ¼ detergent) per load to prevent build-up.

You should never use fabric softener.  Fabric softeners will leave a film, which will cause the diaper or insert to be less absorbent, and may irritate baby's skin.

Bleach should not be used, as it causes the fibers in the fabric to break down causing holes and a rough texture.

Line drying or “sunning” your diapers is the best way to remove any stains.  As long as you get all of the detergent out of the insert and dry them properly, insert or diapers should never be stiff or smell bad.

My washing routine for my cloth diaper is very simple. I used combination of wet & dry pail. I use dry pail method where used cloth diapers are stored with no rinsing or standing water (For diaper that has any waste loose on it, I would spray onto the cloth diapers over the toilet to get rid of any loose before putting them in the pail). Diapers are simply tossed in the pail and stay there until wash day. A sprinkle of baking soda or a small towel sprinkled with lavender or tea tree oil is sometimes used in a dry pail to control odors.

During the washing day, I just simply dunk the diaper into my washing machine. Put only ¼ from total recommended detergent. Enough water is needed to ensure that no detergent build up. Thus I only put half load of diaper but set the water level to "full load". I use the longest cycle in my washing machine which is "soak". Then I leave the machine to clean up the diapers. Simple, right?

Q6: What detergent can I use?

You should only use detergents that are free of dyes, enzymes, perfumes, whiteners, brighteners and softeners. . Using detergents containing these ingredients will cause damage to your diaper including elastic failure and leaking.

Q7: How can I prevent diaper leakage?
Normally diaper leakage is caused by a saturated diaper. Any diaper will leak once full. If your baby is having problems with leaks, additional absorbency solves leakage problems most of the time. If that doesn't work, we've included some other trouble-shooting points below.
Our insert is made from hemp. Hemp takes up to 8 washes to reach its peak in absorbency. Our inserts have already been pre-washed two times before they are made into these wonderful inserts! Thus you need to wash it 6 more times. Alternately, you can just boil it for 10 minutes

  • Did you prewash?
First of all, make sure that you washed everything at least once before using. There can be residue left on the fabric from the production process that can cause leakage.

  • Is the insert flat?
Make sure that the insert is FLAT when you put the diaper on your baby. If it is twisted or wadded up, this can cause leakage.

  • Is the wetness at the legs?
If the diaper is leaking from the legs, change the diaper and remove the insert. If it is saturated then your baby definitely needs a more absorbent insert or a more frequent diaper change. If the insert isn’t saturated, then the diaper may not be adjusted to fit your child properly or, if you are using a detergent that contains additives, your diapers may also have detergent buildup which can cause leakage.
Another reason might be because your baby is not wearing the correct diaper size. Ensure that the diaper is snug and that there is not too much "room" around the legs. If too much space around the leg, this will lead to leaking at the legs

  • Is your diaper repelling water?
Soakers and diapers that are not washed properly may repel water. Repelling is where you will see that water will roll off the side of the diaper or soaker instead of being absorbed into the soaker. Causes of repelling include using softener when washing and also built up of detergent in the diaper. Please ensure that you do not use softener and rinse your diaper with lots of water to ensure that there is no detergent residue left in the diaper

Q8: I think my diapers/ inserts have detergent buildup. What should I do?

Wash your diapers by washing in hot water with approximately one tablespoon of dishwashing detergent. Rinse until you don't see anymore suds. Then dry your diapers/ inserts in the dryer on medium heat or line dry your diaper
